Colonoscopy

A colonoscopy is a minimally invasive examination that allows our experienced medical team to visualize the inner lining of the colon (Large intestine) and rectum ( End part of the digestive tract), providing valuable insights for early diagnosis and intervention.
During a colonoscopy, a long, flexible tube with a camera (colonoscope) is gently inserted through the rectum and advanced along the entire length of the colon. The colonoscope transmits real-time images to a monitor, enabling our skilled gastroenterologists to closely examine the colon's walls for any abnormalities, such as polyps, ulcers, inflammation, or signs of cancer.
Colonoscopy is a vital tool in colorectal cancer screening, as it can detect and remove precancerous polyps before they develop into cancer. Early detection of colorectal cancer significantly improves treatment outcomes and increases the chances of a successful recovery.
The procedure is performed in a specialized endoscopy suite within our Diagnostic Center. To ensure your comfort during the procedure, sedation or anesthesia may be administered, making the experience painless and stress-free.
The American Cancer Society recommends that individuals aged 45 and older, or younger if they have risk factors, undergo regular colonoscopies for colorectal cancer screening. Additionally, individuals with a family history of colorectal cancer or other risk factors may need to start screening earlier.
